Love is a beautiful thing, and for Matthew McConaughey and his wife Camila Alves McConaughey, it’s a love that has stood the test of time. The couple recently celebrated their 12th wedding anniversary, marking over a decade of commitment, love, and shared adventures.

On Sunday, June 9, Matthew took to Instagram to commemorate the special occasion with a heartfelt post – a photo of him kissing his wife’s forehead, donning a cowboy hat and jean jacket. The simple caption, “Thank you,” accompanied by the hashtag “#happyanniversary,” spoke volumes about the depth of their love and gratitude for one another.

A Fateful Encounter

Their love story began in 2006 when they first met at a club. In a 2016 interview with PEOPLE, Matthew recounted the moment he laid eyes on Camila, describing her as an “aqua-green figure” that floated across the room. It was love at first sight for the actor, who knew instantly that this was no ordinary encounter.

“As I was trying to get that’s attention across the room, I went in my head, ‘This is not the kind of woman you call over across the room, McConaughey. Get your ass out of your chair and go get her.’ Which I did,” he shared, revealing the moment that changed his life forever.

A Family United

The couple welcomed their first child, son Levi, on July 7, 2008, followed by daughter Vida on January 3, 2010. On June 9, 2012, they officially tied the knot in a three-day-long ceremony held at their Austin, Texas home, with their children taking on the roles of ring bearer and flower girl.

Despite the presence of VIP guests like Reese Witherspoon, Kenny Chesney, and Woody Harrelson, it was their children who stole the show, as Camila shared, “[They] seem to understand what we are doing on a spiritual level.” Matthew added, “We decided to embrace the ritual of marriage as an opportunity and adventure we’ll take together.”

Shared Passions and Unwavering Love

Since then, the couple has embarked on professional adventures together, including launching their viral tequila brand Pantalones last year. They also welcomed a third child, 11-year-old son Livingston, further solidifying their family bond.

In a 2020 interview with PEOPLE, Matthew candidly shared his thoughts on finding “the one” and his unwavering love for Camila. “Since [the evening we met], I have not wanted to spend time with any other woman, definitely have not wanted to sleep with anyone else. I’ve not wanted to have children with anyone else other than her,” he said, adding, “We have a love that we never question.”
