When Taylor Swift takes the stage, she never fails to surprise her devoted Swifties. At her second of three Eras Tour shows in Edinburgh, Scotland, on June 8, the superstar seamlessly blended “All of the Girls You Loved Before” from 2023 with “Crazier” from the 2009 Hannah Montana movie starring Miley Cyrus. This unexpected mashup, performed acoustically on piano, left the crowd at Murrayfield Stadium in awe.

“You get extra points if you know this next song at all because it is really, really old,” Swift, 34, told the audience, acknowledging the nostalgic nature of the mashup. “Oh my God, you’re so unbelievable,” she exclaimed before the song’s bridge, clearly delighted by the enthusiastic response from her fans.

Surprise Song Segment

The nostalgic moment happened during the surprise song segment, where during each night of the Eras Tour, Swift performs two songs or two mashups of songs acoustically on piano and guitar. The other mashup for night two in Edinburgh was “The Bolter” from 2024’s The Tortured Poets Department and “Getaway Car” from 2017’s Reputation.

These surprise song segments have become a beloved tradition for Swifties, allowing them to witness their favorite artist in a more intimate setting and experience unexpected musical treats.

A Warm Welcome in Scotland

Swift received a warm welcome to Edinburgh earlier in the week when the bagpipe group Reel Time Pipe Band covered her 2008 hit “Love Story” at the same stadium where she would later take the stage. Scotland’s First Minister John Swinney also joined the fanfare, welcoming the “Cruel Summer” singer and calling the temporary renaming of local Loch Tay to “Loch Tay Tay” in her honor “just fabulous” in a video message.

“I really hope she has the chance to go and see Loch Tay — or should I say, Loch Tay Tay — because it is the most beautiful part of Scotland,” Swinney said. “She’ll get a really warm welcome here, and I know all of the Swifites will be so exhilarated by her presence in Scotland.”

Swift’s Scottish Heritage

The Eras Tour dates in Scotland mark only the second time Swift has scheduled concerts in the country — the first was in June 2015 for a soldout show at an arena in Glasgow for the 1989 World Tour. “I happen to love Scottish people, personally,” the singer told the Glasgow crowd in 2015, just a month after she had taken her relationship with Scottish producer Calvin Harris public with an appearance together on the red carpet at the Billboard Music Awards.

At the 2015 concert, Swift also revealed her Scottish heritage to the audience, recalling an email she received from her father, Scott Swift, ahead of the show. “The subject line said, ‘Tell Scotland this,’ ” Swift recalled. “The whole body of the email was like, ‘Our whole family is from Scotland and pretty much nowhere else, so you have to tell them.’ “

Recent Tour Stops

Swift’s visit to Edinburgh comes on the heels of a two-night stint in Lyon, France, where she performed her three-and-a-half hour set, even as rain poured down for much of the first show. The Eras Tour has been a resounding success, with Swift captivating audiences across the globe with her electrifying performances and unexpected surprises.
