A voice that brought comic book stories to life has been silenced. Ben Potter, the internet personality known as Comicstorian, passed away at the age of 40 on June 8, 2024. With over three million subscribers on YouTube, Potter’s channel was a beloved destination for fans of the Marvel and DC universes, where he created audio dramas and discussions around beloved comic book characters and storylines.
Potter’s wife, Nathalie, confirmed the heartbreaking news, revealing that her husband died “in an unfortunate accident.” While the details surrounding the accident remain private, Nathalie’s tribute to her late husband painted a picture of a man who touched countless lives with his passion and kindness.
A Superhero in His Own Right
“To many of you, he was Comicstorian, voicing stories from across multiple different mediums. To his loved ones, he was one of the best and most supportive individuals anyone could ask for,” Nathalie shared. “As a husband, a son, a brother, a friend, or even just a stranger, Ben was loving and genuine. He was someone who would listen and make time for his loved ones. He would do his best to make everyone laugh and make sure they were okay. He was our rock and he’d reassure his loved ones whenever they needed it.”
Nathalie’s heartfelt words captured the essence of a man who brought joy and comfort to those around him, both through his online presence and in his personal life. “He was my world,” she added, requesting privacy as she and Ben’s loved ones grieve this immense loss.
A Decade of Storytelling
For over 10 years, Ben Potter dedicated himself to sharing his love and appreciation for comic book stories through the Comicstorian channel. With nearly 4,000 videos under his belt, Potter’s passion for well-crafted narratives and compelling characters shone through in every upload, captivating audiences with his engaging storytelling.
Just a day before his untimely passing, Potter shared his latest video, titled “Why DC’s Reboots Beat Marvel,” a testament to his unwavering commitment to his craft and his desire to explore the depths of the comic book universes he adored.
A Legacy That Will Live On
As news of Potter’s death spread, tributes poured in from fans and industry figures alike. O’Shea Jackson Jr., the son of Ice Cube and Kimberly Woodruff, expressed his heartbreak, calling Potter “one of my favorite follows on YouTube” and thanking him for his work. Comic book author Scott Snyder echoed the sentiment, praising Potter’s “infectious and amazing” love for comics.
Amidst the outpouring of grief, Nathalie vowed to honor her husband’s legacy by continuing to tell the stories he cherished. “His channel was one of his greatest accomplishments, and while we all need our time to mourn him, I know he wouldn’t want it to end like this,” she said. “The team and I want to keep that going. To honor him by continuing to tell great stories by great people, as well as to keep the memory of our very own superhero alive.”
